Hear from a family member, Jeff Aplin, of David Aplin Group about his company’s journey to Employee Ownership

Within the next five years, thousands of Canadian businesses owners in all sectors of the economy will be retiring. Statistically, most of these owners don’t have a plan for this scary transition.

An Employee Share Ownership Plan (ESOP) is one alternative.  It allows the transition to occur on the owner’s terms and timeline.  The result is maintenance or strengthening of the company values through greater employee engagement and entrepreneurial spirit.

This presentation will answer these questions:

• Why would an owner consider using an ESOP to transition their business?

• How do the owner(s) and the company benefit?

• What are the benefits to employees through ownership?

• What cultural shifts occur as employees begin to think and act like owners?

• What is the process that ensures a succession/transition plan that meets both owners and employees goals for the long-term?

Dan Ohler, Employee Ownership Specialist with ESOP Builders Inc.
